WORCESTER, Mass. – APRIL 28, 2015 — The YWCA Central Massachusetts recently announced its list of winners of the 2015 Katharine F. Erskine Award, recognizing women who have demonstrated leadership and reached exemplary levels of achievement in their professions and communities.

The women being honored and receiving awards at this year’s Tribute to Women Luncheon are:

Arts and Culture

Stacy Lord, Visual Arts Teacher, Worcester East Middle School

Business and Law

Kate McEvoy-Zdonczyk, Vice President, Corporate Community Relations and Vice President, Central and Western Massachusetts Regional Market Harvard Pilgrim Health Care

Education

Marie Morse, Principal, Union Hill School, Worcester, Mass.

Health, Science & Technology

Linda Weinreb, M.D., Medical Director, Homeless Families Program at Family Health Center of Worcester

Community, Social Service & Government

Brenda Jenkins, CEO, Mosaic Cultural Complex, Worcester, Mass.

These women clearly demonstrated their commitment to the YWCA mission — to empower women and girls and eliminate racism — and each met the following criteria:

  • Distinctive achievement and service in her current field
  • Service to community with a demonstrated commitment to social and racial equality
  • A demonstrated commitment to serving as a role model for women and girls
  • Must live and/or work in Central Massachusetts

The award is named for Katharine Forbes Erskine, who twice served Worcester’s YWCA as president, first in 1930 and again in 1960. Throughout her life, Ms. Erskine actively championed the rights of women and girls.

A panel of community leaders, past Erskine Award recipients, and YWCA volunteers selected an award recipient in each of the five categories. These selections were not based on the number of nominations an individual received, but rather on the merit of the individual, and nominees are not required to be a member of the YWCA. For more information, see: www.ywcacentralmass.org.

Award recipients will be honored at the YWCA’s annual Tribute to Women Luncheon on May 5 at Mechanics Hall.
