Last December I wrote an article published in the Family Office Review about the changing legal services market, Family Offices and the Morphing Legal Services Market, in which I predicted that:

  1. “Clients will drive the development of access to self-service, mobile, decision-tree legal services via smart phones” and
  2. “Non-lawyers and outsourced legal services will provide more of the legal services for the client directly.”

Now, Avvo is offering an iOS app for legal consulting at a fixed fee and LegalZoom products will be sold at a discount through Sam’s Club.

I doubt we can stay ahead of this curve.  Fortunately practical, reassuring, and cost-effective service that is holistic and tailored—recognizing the color and substance of complex family issues—remains the most stable of our clients’ long-term objectives.
